How to use InkToAudio
A complete, plain-English guide for turning your writing into studio-quality audio and distributing it as a podcast. Every feature is explained step by step — no technical knowledge required.
Custom AI instructions
Custom AI instructions are plain-language notes you give the AI before it prepares your text for narration. Use them for house style, pronunciation, and edits you want made every time, like skipping a list of links or sponsor block. You write them once, save them, and reuse them on any post or pipeline.
Where to add them
- The post editor. In Content, open a post with Edit (or start one with Create content) and tick Add AI Instructions under the AI buttons. Type your notes in the Additional AI Instructions box, or pick one from Select a saved prompt. Instructions you use here are saved to your company profile automatically.
- Settings → AI instructions. Edit, add, and remove your saved instructions in one place. See the Settings guide.
- Auto Render and Auto Ingest pipelines. Each pipeline has an AI instructions (optional) field with a Use a saved instruction dropdown. See the Auto Ingest guide.
How they work with each AI tool
Your instructions apply to every AI tool in the editor: Apply TTS Rules, Improve, Podcast Style, and Newscast Style.
- Apply TTS Rules (called TTS rules only in pipelines) keeps your wording and applies text-to-speech formatting. It still makes the specific edits your instructions ask for, such as cutting a section, dropping a link list, or respelling a term, and leaves everything else as written.
- Improve, Podcast Style, and Newscast Style rewrite more freely, so they also follow tone guidance, like “keep it warm and casual.”
Pipelines need an AI transformation
How pronunciation works
The voice reads your script literally. It cannot follow instructions or pronunciation notes on its own. So when you tell the AI how a term should sound, it respells the term in the narration text, in every place it appears, and keeps plural and possessive endings. For example, “ASTA’s” becomes “Azta’s.” You will see the respelled word in the editor.
- Only terms you name are respelled. Everything else is left alone.
- The respelling wins over other formatting rules, such as spelling out initialisms letter by letter.
- The instruction itself is never written into the narration.
Examples
Copy any of these into the instructions box and adjust the wording.
This newsletter begins with a list of links, do not include these in the narration output
Drops the opening link list so the voice does not read out every URL or headline.
AMP is an acronym spoken as a single word, convert each instance of "AMP" to "Amp"
Without this, the AI can treat AMP as an initialism and format it so the voice reads each letter, A, M, P. With it, every AMP becomes Amp and the voice says it as one word.
Skip the sponsored section that starts with "Presented by" and ends before the first heading.
Removes a sponsor block by naming the text that marks where it starts and ends.
ASTA should be pronounced as a single word, Azta.
Respells ASTA as Azta everywhere it appears, so the voice says the name the way you do.
Do not narrate the sign-off, unsubscribe text, or social links at the end.
Cuts the footer so each episode ends on your last real sentence.
Read dollar amounts in full, for example $2.5M as two point five million dollars.
Sets a house style for how numbers are spoken.
Keep it warm and casual; our audience is first-time investors.
Tone guidance. It shapes the rewrite when you use Improve, Podcast Style, or Newscast Style.
Writing instructions that work
- Be specific about what to find and what to do with it. “Remove the sponsor block” is vaguer than naming the exact text that starts it.
- Name the exact text that marks the start and end of a section you want cut.
- Phrase pronunciation rules as “X should be pronounced Y” or “convert X to Y.”
- One instruction can hold several rules. Put one rule on each line.
- Save one instruction per newsletter and attach it to that newsletter’s Auto Ingest pipeline.
Managing saved instructions
Open Settings → AI instructions to manage them.
- Edit the text of any saved instruction in place.
- Click Add instruction for a new empty box, or Remove to delete one.
- Click Save changes. Blank boxes and duplicates are dropped.
You can keep up to 50 saved instructions, each up to 5,000 characters. When you pick a saved instruction in a pipeline, its text is copied into the pipeline. Editing the saved version later does not change pipelines that already used it.
